Own CORE-system with an ISD 1760
« on: January 20, 2012, 06:23:41 AM »
Hello,
I want to build some MilesTag Cores.
Now Iam looking for shops which are able to deliver affordable components to germany.

My first component is the ISD 1790.
I did not find an european shop which is able to send me these ICs.
Only shops in USA or china ship these ICs (with a too much shipping costs, vat and toll).

Is it also possible to use the ISD 1760 on my CORE?
Because I found this IC in some german online shops.

The datasheet says:
ISD 1760 -> 40 - 120 secs Duration
ISD 1790 -> 60 - 160 secs Duration

In the uMT is able to use the ISD 1730/60/90.

Is it da good idea to insert a ISD 1760 to my Milestag Core?

Thanks a lot

I found the answer at http://www.laserforums.com/forum/showthread.php/4464-MilesTag-CORE-module-(RevH).-questions?p=58095#post58095

Question:
Can I use a different type of the ISD1700 series,
than the 1790?

Answer:
The sound effects will fit on an ISD1790 or larger capacity. But the recording time available for each sound effect is preset in firmware. So the larger chip will not provide any advantage. So you can use whatever ISD1700 is easiest to find, with minimum of ISD1790.

My conclusion:
So I need an ISD1790  :(

I was wondering the same thing and the answer we found is that the recording time available for each sound effect is preset in firmware.

Then I go on the sound effects page, I sum up all the maximum times preset and I come out with 51 seconds. So why isd1760 shouldn't theoretically work?

(I also know that it can be a matter of sound quality more than length, but with the right quality setting i guess it should fit). However I bought two isd1760, I will let you know if it works or not : )

Oh, btw, Digikey is quite expensive but they have both the isd

The original MilesTag spec runs the 1790 at a sample rate such that it only gives 60 seconds recording time (from memory).
I believe you will be unable to fit the sounds on anything smaller.
If it works, you'll be missing some of the tail end sound FX.

Ok... unfortunately the order is done, so I will try and see what happens. At Futurlec they told me that the product (isd1790) is now discontinued, so they don't expect it to be available again (that's the reason why they don't have it in stock no more)
Thank you however, I will let you know : )

Edit: Rosc should be the resistor that modifies the sampling frequency. In our case should be 60k4ohm. What about changing it to lower the frequency and increase the capacity? Too naiv solution?

With a changed Rosc you will be able to do it, I think!
Good luck!

Side note: If the ISD1790 is discontinued, what are we going to be using next!?

Going by the manufacturer's website the 1790 is no longer in mass production, looks like we might have to use the 17120 instead to get the full range of sounds.

And I've noticed that all the PDIP parts are Not Recommended for New Designs.....
Thanks Nuvoton.....
